Contemplative life-coaching can be a valuable adjunct or (in some cases) an alternative to work with a spiritual teacher, a community of practice, or traditional psychiatry/psychotherapy, helping navigate grief and other major life changes and existential challenges. Expertise in integrating meditation/spirituality experiences into everyday life, and in navigating adverse reactions to meditation. Extensive experience working with Buddhists, contemplative Christians, and Jewish people, including work with chaplains, clergy, and CPE students.

Experienced with the unique challanges and life-transitions facing young people, especially before, during, and after college and graduate school, and in helping them find and grow into new ways of communicating and navigating relationships.

Experienced in working with people with neurodivergence, including ADHD, Asperger's/Autism Spectrum, and Introversion. Also experienced in working with individuals under the simultaneous care of a psychiatrist around manic episodes and bipolar episodes, and integration of insights and experiences.

about the coach
background
Josh the Coach (he/they) is a certified life coach who also holds a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from UMass-Boston, and a bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science from Vassar Collage. He spent 20 years editing Dharma books for Wisdom Publications, and has also worked as a mental health counselor, behavioral therapist, tarot reader, and an amateur stage actor. Though not currently affiliated with any group, he is a former meditation teacher and Dharma community leader. Recreationally he enjoys birding, photography, science fiction, and Magic: The Gathering.

Josh is a contemplative abstract and nature photographer who participates regularly in Somerville (Mass.) Open Studios, and regional shows throughout New England. His work is influenced by Abstract Expressionism, miksang photography, and the Zen arts. His photography can be found at Shobophoto.us and Instagram, and it is also available affordably for purchase.

Josh is the author, co-author, or authoring editor of a number of books including Daily Doses of Wisdom and several other collections of inspiring quotations, two children's books---I See You, Mara! and I See You, Buddha!---and (with Ezra Bayda) Saying Yes to Life (Even the Hard Parts).

Josh regularly collaborates with psychologist Lizabeth Roemer on her Psychology Today blog "Mindfully Doing What Matters." Josh's other writings include this piece on the Spiritual Journey, this piece on meditation leading to an unstable mind, and (with Liz Roemer) a chapter on acceptance and mindfulness in The Handbook of Zen, Mindfulness, and Behavioral Health.
